PHOENIX — A woman and infant were killed and three other children were injured in a crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of 19th Street and Lower Buckeye Road, Phoenix police said.

Police were called to a crash involving a silver sedan and a black pickup truck around 1:20 p.m.

A 25-year-old woman and her infant passenger in the sedan were taken to the hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police said. The woman and her two-month-old baby later died at the hospital.

Three other children were also hospitalized, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Phoenix police identified the victims Saturday as 25-year-old Christina Lara and 2-month-old Josiah Lara.

Police believe a 23-year-old man was driving a sedan southbound on 19th Avenue at a high rate of speed, accelerating through a yellow light and colliding with what witnesses said was a black pickup truck.

The man driving a black pickup truck was attempting to make a left turn onto Lower Buckeye. He was not injured.

Officials told ABC15 at the scene that the children were not in safety seats.

Officials say a final charging decision will be made once the crash reconstruction is complete.

ABC15 spoke with Christina’s mother, who said she has set up an online fundraiser to help with expenses.
