What to expect in New Jersey on Election Day

New Jersey only recently implemented early voting. In 2022, early voting and mail-in voting accounted for 30% of the vote. The first vote numbers released on election night are expected to be a combination of these advance votes. Uncounted voter turnout on election night could average 5% to 6%, higher in Cumberland and Bergen counties.

The urban north is the most Democratic region of the state, while the northwest region is the most Republican.

Let’s take a look at what to expect in the 2024 New Jersey election.

Voting deadline time

8pm ET.

presidential elector votes

The overall state winner will receive 14.

President: Harris (Democrat) vs. Trump (Republican) vs. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (Independent) vs. Jill Stein (Green) vs. Chase Oliver (Libertarian) and 4 others.

U.S. Senate: Kim (D) vs. Bashaw (R) and 4 others.

2020: Biden (Democrats) 57%, Trump (Republicans) 41%, Associated Press Campaign Call: Tuesday, November 3, 2020, 8:00 PM ET.

Voter registration and turnout

Number of registered voters: 6,659,963 (as of October 1, 2024). About 38% are Democrats, 24% are Republicans, and 37% are independents.

2020 Presidential Election Turnout: 70% of registered voters.

Election day voting

Number of votes cast before Election Day 2020: Approximately 93% of total votes cast.

Number of votes cast by Election Day 2022: Approximately 30% of total votes cast.

How long does it take to count votes?

The first vote was reported on November 3, 2020 at 8:18 PM ET.

By midnight ET, approximately 32% of the total votes cast had been reported.
