Partisan control of the U.S. Congress could soon extend to some seats in Virginia. That’s why prominent political officials are visiting the state this week to support federal candidates from all parties.
U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Thursday night supports Democratic candidate Missy Cotter Smasall’s challenge to Rep. Jen Quiggans (R-Virginia Beach) in Virginia’s 2nd District. I plan to visit Virginia Beach on Thursday night. Col. Eugene Vindman faces Republican Derrick Anderson, a former Green Beret, in Northern Virginia’s 7th District. If Democrats regain a majority in the House, Jeffries could become the next House speaker.
Mr. Jeffries endorsed Mr. Smasall earlier this year, drawing national attention to a district that often teeters between partisan control.
Mr. Vindman and Mr. Anderson both won their party’s primaries this summer. Their race is considered a surprise outcome by several political forecasters.
Despite trailing in last month’s poll, a new Wayson Center poll by Christopher Newport University shows Quiggans trailing Smasall by 1 as the Nov. 5 election approaches. It is shown that he has a points lead. Virginia Public Access Project.
Mr. Vindman will return to Virginia this Sunday to receive support from Mr. Jeffries before launching his campaign with Democratic Sen. Mark Warner, U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger and Democratic Prince William. . Spanberger currently represents the district and is vacating his seat to run for governor of Virginia next year.
The 1st District race for U.S. Rep. Rob Whitman is not considered a big deal by pundits and analysts, but U.S. Rep. Rob Whitman (R-Westmoreland) is running for Chesterfield County on Saturday morning. He will get a boost from Keystone Acres and Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump.
Since 2007, Whitman has typically won re-election by a margin of 20 percentage points or more, but has at times narrowed the margin in recent years, and in the 2018 campaign against Democrat Labangeren Ereka Williams. He won by a 10.5% margin. This year’s Democratic challenger, Leslie Mehta, is hoping to flip the seat.
Analysts believe he could at least narrow Whitman’s margin of victory and show that Republican-leaning districts are gaining ground for Democrats.
Trump, who is the daughter-in-law of former Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, also plans to support U.S. Senate candidate Hung Kao. The Republican Navy veteran is challenging incumbent Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine, who has a comfortable lead in opinion polls.
