After Monday’s frost and freeze warning, another taste of summer awaits as temperatures warm up into Halloween. In fact, parts of our area will be close to 80 degrees on Halloween afternoon.
Temperatures have been mild this October.
Just last week, temperatures approached record highs for three days in a row. Compared to the climatological mean temperature, the number of days spent with above-average temperatures was significantly greater than the number of days with below-average temperatures. And Halloween will be a day to push that “above average” number even higher.
A warm front will move through the tri-state Tuesday evening, bringing a slight chance of showers. Most areas will remain dry with no significant or impactful rain, but areas of the Hudson Valley, Fairfield County, and Long Island may see some showers around dinner time. A drop or two may reach the city, but it won’t come close to the amount needed to make up for the lack of rain.
But the key feature of this front is, of course, the increase in temperature. Highs will soar into the 70s on Wednesday, with some reaching the upper 70s and even the 80s on Thursday.
And, like last week, high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s mean we could once again approach or even break record highs.
The warm afternoon heat gives way to very mild nights when it’s trick-or-treating time. The good news is that you no longer need to wear a jacket over your Halloween costume. In fact, you should be wary of heavy costumes or costumes that include multiple layers. After sunset, temperatures will still be in the 70s.
As long as you don’t mind mild temperatures, it should be a lovely night no matter how you spend it. Whether you’re planning to go trick-or-treating with the kids or looking for something a little scary like watching the Jets play.
