SEATTLE — As voters begin returning their ballots in the 2024 election, crime, public safety and homelessness are clear priorities for Washington state residents, according to a recent KOMO News/Strategy 360 poll.

KOMO News partnered with Strategy 360 to conduct a mixed-mode survey of 600 registered voters across Washington state. The interview took place from October 11th to 16th.

When asked to choose the top two priorities for Washington’s elected leaders, 75% of respondents said homelessness, crime and security, and drug trafficking.

When asked how satisfied voters are with public safety, 52% of those surveyed said they were completely dissatisfied and 48% said they were completely satisfied.

Both candidates running for governor of Washington state advocate for public safety and have promised to increase the number of police officers if elected.

Former King County Sheriff and Republican candidate Dave Reichert called Washington “a haven for crime, drugs, homelessness, human trafficking and other serious problems.”

Bob Ferguson, a Democrat and current Washington state attorney general, has announced plans to increase law enforcement resources and use money raised from opioid lawsuits to implement a fentanyl crisis response plan.

Strategies 360 CEO and political analyst Ron Dotzauer will appear on KOMO News on multiple news shows this week to discuss the survey results and what’s at stake for voters this fall.
