A credible challenger could help expand Klobuchar’s field. “Even popular and well-respected incumbents benefit from strong opposition when they face reelection,” said Michael Brodkolb, a Minnesota Republican analyst who is voting for Klobuchar. “Competitive campaigns allow candidates to engage more deeply with voters. Strong challengers can tap into latent dissatisfaction with voters and present them with new options. ”
Voters will decide whether White is the candidate, but they also need to make sure he has the right judgment to fill the job. White represents a welcome milestone for Minnesota. He is the first black major party candidate for the U.S. Senate.
Three other Black women are seeking historic victories in the U.S. Senate races in Maryland, Delaware, and Indiana, respectively: Angela Allbrooks, Lisa Blunt Rochester, and Valerie McCray. Brant Rochester served in the U.S. House of Representatives and in the cabinets of two governors. Mr. Allbrooks, an attorney, has experience as a prosecutor and county executive. Mr. McCray holds a Ph.D. and has worked as a clinical psychologist for many years.
White lacks the outstanding credentials of the trio. His podcasts, public appearances, and social media posts also suggest that he has an odd worldview. The idea is that a shadowy war-promoting cabal that emerged after World War II is shaping global events. Among those dark forces is former President George H.W. Bush, according to White’s event at the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday.
This view is the backdrop behind a controversial 2022 Twitter post that recently surfaced. “Today I realized…the bad guys won World War II. There were no ‘good guys’ in that war. The Dominant had a jump ball. If you look closely, you can see the connections between liberalism and communism in the Allied forces. Remember what General Patton said and why they capped him,” White’s tweet said.
