SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Emily Montgomery, one of our beloved colleagues and longtime ABC7 News employee, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday.
It’s safe to say she was a long-time employee.
Montgomery began her career at KGO-TV in 1983.
She has worked in news archives and as a teleprompter operator, and recently trained to become a director.
Dave Figura, who hired Montgomery for the teleprompter position, said, “Emily had amazing energy and a lively spirit. She’s the kind of person you want to watch your back.”
Joan Jung, who has worked with Montgomery for more than 40 years, recalled working with her in the early 1980s. She said:
“She was my ‘twin’ who remembered what I forgot. We were an amazing team working deep in the archives, in the dark recesses. She was the best person I’ve ever met. She was the strongest woman and never hesitated to stand up for her beliefs, love and convictions. She will be missed by her children, grandchildren and friends. But it will remain in my memory forever.
David Lui, a retired longtime reporter and anchor for ABC7 News, wrote:
“This is truly sad news for all of us. Emily brought her ‘A’ game to work every day, but more importantly she shared her smile, positivity and friendship with us. That’s what happened. That kept us motivated, no matter how busy or busy we were. I would like to express my deepest condolences to everyone who loved her and her spirit.”
Carolyn Tyler, a retired longtime reporter and anchor for ABC7 News, wrote:
“I am speechless. Emily was a dynamo! Always ready for a hug, a smile, and a compliment. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.”
Montgomery is from the Bay Area, and her knowledge helped improve the newscast.
She was a friend to all of us and will surely be missed.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
