Halloween temperatures in New York could reach the mid to upper 70s

Clay Smith was wandering the aisles at Spirit Halloween in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood this week, deciding whether to change his costume from a warm one-piece banana suit to something lighter, perhaps a pool boy. .

Crystal Colon, who was also shopping for Halloween, said she would skip the annual parade in Greenwich Village and instead celebrate her favorite holiday away from the city.

“The heat and the subway and the costumes would be unbearable,” she said.

Temperatures in New York City on Halloween are expected to reach the mid to upper 70s, a far cry from the crisp fall days New Yorkers are accustomed to this time of year.

“I’ve lived here all my life and I don’t think it’s ever been 80 degrees on Halloween,” said Smith, 26, who grew up in Brooklyn. It’s not predicted to reach 80 degrees, but it could get close.

“I don’t think I like it,” he added.

Temperatures could reach the upper 70s to lower 80s in Northeastern cities Thursday, making it one of the region’s hottest Halloweens on record, the National Weather Service said. did.

This has been a relatively warm month for New York City, ranking in the city’s top 25 hottest Octobers in 155 years of record, and Halloween is likely to be the warmest this week. Thursday’s temperature is expected to be below the 81-degree high recorded in Central Park in 1946.
