This will be Domenici’s first run for political office. Her father is former Republican Sen. Pete Domenici, who represented New Mexico for 36 years from 1973 to 2009, retiring after his sixth term. Domenici, 63, was born in Albuquerque and lived there until he was 12 years old, when his family moved to Rockville, Maryland. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Georgetown University, a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, and a master’s degree from Harvard Business School. Mr. Domenici’s career most recently included serving as chief financial officer of artificial intelligence company Dataminr. Previously, he was CFO of Bridgewater Associates, which oversees the world’s largest hedge funds. She has also held consulting and management positions at other hedge funds including Citadel Investment Group, Credit Suisse, and Monitor Group. Domenici and her husband, Patrick McDonough, founded Excellent Schools New Mexico, a nonprofit organization that funds and establishes charter schools. Mr. McDonough, an investment banker with True North, chairs the board. Excellent Schools New Mexico spent more than $25,000 lobbying lawmakers in 2022, according to tax documents.
